Baptism - Sacrament of Initiation

“Baptism, the gateway to the sacraments, is necessary for salvation, either by actual reception or at least by desire. By it people are freed from sins, and born again as children of God and, made like to Christ by an indelible character, are incorporated into the Church. It is validly conferred only by a washing in real water with the proper form of words.”  (Canon 849)

Parents requesting to have their child Baptized must be practicing Catholics and registered parishioners for at least 3 months.  In the case of a mixed religion family, this is expected of the Catholic parent.  First time parents, (or if it’s been more than 4 years between children) must attend a Baptism class.  Parents are welcome to attend the class before the birth of their child.  Baptisms are held after the 10:00 pm Sunday Mass, once a month.  Please call the Parish Office at 313-562-5356 to register.

Adults wishing to become Catholic need to contact the Faith Formation Office at 313-563-0960 to register for R.C.I.A (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).
